Operations Research and Management Science

in this section

Operations Research and Management Science (OR/MS) aims to provide rational bases for decision making by seeking to understand and model complex situations and to use this understanding to predict system behavior and improve system performance. This minor, offered by the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering, gives the student the opportunity to obtain a wide exposure to the core methodological tools for OR/MS, including mathematical programming, stochastic and statistical models, and simulation. The intent of this minor is that the student should obtain a broad knowledge of these fundamentals, rather than training the student in a particular application domain. In this way, the student can adjust the selection of the advanced courses in the minor, so as to pursue those areas, either methodological or application oriented, of greatest interest and relevance to the overall educational goals.

Students in all Majors except Operations Research and Engineering may participate in this minor.
