ChemE Car Team

cheme-car-2010
In fall 2010, the Cornell ChemE Car team won the national competition.

The ChemE Car Team designs and builds a shoebox-sized car powered and stopped by chemical reactions for competition at regional and national levels. The competitions, organized by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), are designed to test how precisely the car can be controlled. This involves getting the car to go as close as possible, while carrying a load, to the finish line. The exact load and distance to the finish line are only announced at the competition.

Competitions are held once a semester, and the team goes through an ongoing subteam-driven process of research, design, construction and calibration. The team has won the national championship in two of the past three years, 2008 and 2010, and is the first team in competition history to stop exactly on the finish line. Members of all majors are welcome.
