Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (CUAUV)

The Cornell University Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (CUAUV) team is a group of over 40 students ranging from freshmen to PhDs who work together to build robotic submarines.
The team brings together students from eight majors in three different schools in a multidisciplinary effort to solve a complex problem. The primary goal of the team is to win the AUVSI/ONR autonomous underwater vehicle competition. The team has been very successful at the competitions, having won the overall competition two years in a row and taken first place for design for the past five years running.
As the team has matured, a secondary goal has emerged—to apply the vehicle as a research tool in Cayuga Lake to assist in local environmental efforts. Throughout these pursuits, CUAUV is dedicated to providing Cornell engineering students, especially undergraduate students, with a wide exposure to team oriented design experiences. The team and vehicle have been featured numerous times at oceanographic and unmanned conferences and in
magazines and is highly regarded in industry.
