AP & Transfer Credit
Before coming to Cornell, many students complete advanced placement courses in high school or take courses at an accredited college that are similar to courses offered here. Successful completion of advanced placement (AP), international baccalaureate (IB), and GCE curriculums and exams is a way for students to show proficiency and receive course credit or exemption from selected areas of the undergraduate engineering curriculum. Coursework from an accredited college or university that was not used to meet high school graduation requirements can be presented for an award of transfer credit towards the undergraduate degree requirements. The College of Engineering will evaluate an official transcript and decide whether credit will be awarded. You can also take a Cornell departmental examination (given during Orientation Week before the beginning of the fall term) in selected areas of the undergraduate engineering curriculum to try to receive college credit.
Please consult the AP Credit Table in the Grades and Credit section of the Engineering Undergraduate Handbook for more information. The Engineering Registrar's office also provides additional information about AP and transfer credit.
