Dr. Mohammed Y. Al-Qahtani is chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Aramco Services Company, the U.S.-based subsidiary of Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco), a world leader in oil exploration and production. He is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and operations of Aramco Services to support Saudi Aramco. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Aramco Services provides engineering and IT support for North American-based project teams, procurement and transportation of materials to Saudi Aramco, financial support services for Saudi Aramco’s U.S. business ventures, recruitment of personnel to fill open positions at Saudi Aramco, career development support for Saudi Aramco-sponsored students in North America, safety inspections of vessels and environmental oil spill response services in the Western Hemisphere for Vela International Marine, Inc., Saudi Aramco’s shipping company, and other services as required.
Dr. Al-Qahtani also represents the interests of Aramco Services to governmental, industrial and other agencies within the U.S. through offices in Houston and Washington, D.C., and provides support to U.S-based subsidiaries, Saudi Petroleum International, Inc., Saudi Refining, Inc. and Aramco Associated Company. He serves as chairman of the board for Saudi Refining, Inc. and Aramco Training Services Company, and serves as a board member of Saudi Petroleum International, Inc. and Aramco Financial Services Company.
Dr. Al-Qahtani's education includes 1996 Doctorate of Petroleum Engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles; 1992 Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles; and 1988 Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Al-Qahtani joined Saudi Aramco in 1983 as a student to pursue a career in petroleum engineering. He eventually went on to serve in a number of leadership positions within Saudi Aramco’s oil & gas operations. Positions held include: acting chief petroleum engineer; manager, Reservoir Description & Simulation Department; manager, Reservoir Management Department, manager, Production & Facilities Development Department; manager, Seawater Injection Department; general supervisor, Gas Production Engineering Division.
Throughout his career, Dr. Al-Qahtani has been instrumental in the development of leading-edge technologies in reservoir management. He authored a number of articles that were published in the industry’s top magazines, and conducted special presentations at a variety of professional forums. Additionally, he has been extensively involved in several professional societies, and is currently serving as a board member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
