Rick Allmendinger, Cornell Class ’75, received his Ph.D. in Geology from Stanford University in 1979. He joined the Cornell faculty of the Department of Geological Sciences in 1984. He is currently Professor of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences and Associate Dean for Diversity and Faculty Development in the College of Engineering. Allmendinger’s specialty is in rock deformation, mountain building, South American geology and earthquake geology. He has been a consultant for numerous oil companies, served on several NSF review panels, and been Associate Editor of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Bulletin, Geology, and the Geological Society of America Bulletin. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America, an honorary foreign member of the Asociación Geológica Argentina, and a visiting Professor at the Universidad Católica del Norte in Antofagasta Chile. He is the author of more than 100 scientific publications and several computer programs used throughout the profession.
