Cornell Alumni Magazine
Cornell Alumni Magazine (then known as the Cornell Alumni News) was founded in 1899 by a group of alumni. In the first issue, its mission was stated as follows: “First, to reflect faithfully and especially for alumni the present life at the University. Secondly, to keep alumni accurately informed concerning the attitude of the University body, students, and faculty towards the various questions of University policy. Thirdly, and this is perhaps the most important of all, to keep alumni informed fully and as accurately as possible about the whereabouts and doings of Cornell men and women, and thus not only to foster the interest in classmates and alma mater, but also to increase the enthusiasm and loyalty of every Cornellian for the college on the hill.” The magazine is now a bimonthly publication averaging 112 pages per issue, almost half of which are devoted to Class Notes. The ownership has always remained in the hands of the alumni, and Cornell Alumni Magazine is currently owned and published by the Cornell Alumni Federation (CAF). It is editorially independent of Cornell University.
One of the unique attributes of Cornell is that alumni have many different doorways through which to connect or be involved with their alma mater. Many focus on one activity, such as their college alumni association, while others participate in several alumni groups. Offering Cornell Alumni Magazine through alumni associations such as the CEAA is one more way of making the magazine available to all alumni, regardless of how they choose to be involved with Cornell.
