Networking & Professional Development

First Friday Dinner

Occurring on the first Friday of every month during the academic year, First Friday Dinners are evening professional development opportunities where corporate representatives, faculty, and university administrators have the opportunity to network with undergraduate and graduate engineering students. Presentation topics for First Friday dinners include internship, employment, and research opportunities; strategies for academic, professional, and personal success; preparation for graduate school as well as fellowship offerings. Concluding the dinner are often exciting raffles as well as student or DPE led activities.

Many First Friday Dinners are generously sponsored by corporate partners.  Current and past First Friday Dinner sponsors include Intel, Capital One, Shell, Malcolm Pirnie and Hensel Phelps.  To learn more about opportunities for sponsoring a First Friday Dinner visit our Corporate & Foundation Sponsors page.

Lunch & Learn

Lunch & Learn is a monthly community and professional development event that provides current students with the opportunity to engage with visiting Cornell Engineering alumni.  These events provide alumni an informal atmosphere where they can share their personal and/or professional experiences with students.  Many alumni featured at Lunch & Learn volunteer to return to campus to participate in these events.  However, those alumni sponsored to participate in Lunch & Learn by their employer also utilize this event as an opportunity to highlight their specific employer. Engineering alumni interested in participating in a Lunch & Learn event should contact Sara Xayarath Hernandez at sh267@cornell.edu.

Coffee Hours

Held on a  monthly basis, Coffee Hours provide undergraduate and graduate engineering students the opportunity to network with each other as well as with DPE staff members.  Additionally, DPE frequently invites other university professionals to Coffee Hours to speak informally with students about available resources and services. Coffee Hours also provide corporate sponsors an opportunity to network with students in a more informal atmosphere.
