With the College of Engineering serving as a home to more than 4,500 faculty members, students, and staff from across the globe, annually Diversity Programs in Engineering (DPE) directly serves over 1000 students. DPE initiatives predominately, but not exclusively, serve women, underrepresented minority, and first generation pre-college, undergraduate, and graduate students; postdoctoral fellows; and faculty within the College of Engineering and several other STEM fields. DPE initiatives, interventions, and services are built upon recruitment, retention and outreach efforts which embed at least one of the following program thrusts and core principles:

Mentoring & Academic Support

CU EMPower – a mentoring program that supports the personal and academic development and achievement of first year undergraduate and graduate students as well as undergraduate transfer students by matching them with upperclassmen and/or advanced graduate student peer mentors. CU-EMpower

DPE Annual Awards Banquet– an annual event to recognize and honor graduating students, graduate and undergraduate student leaders and scholars, and faculty.

Diversity Awards, Scholarships, and Supplemental Support – corporate, foundation, and/or Cornell sponsored funds providing academic year and/or summer support for prospective and current undergraduate and graduate students. This includes scholarship and fellowship programs supported via partnerships between Cornell and the National GEM Consortium and between Cornell and the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering.
