ORIE Colloquium: Andrea Lodi (University of Bologna) - Mixed-Integer Programming Solvers: From Where to Where

The first fifty (five) years of Integer and Mixed-Integer Linear Programming have taken us to a very stable paradigm for solving problems in a reliable and effective way. We run over these 50 exciting years by showing some crucial milestones and we highlight the building blocks that are making nowadays solvers effective from both a performance and an application viewpoint. Finally, we show that a lot of work must still be done for improving the solvers and extending their modeling capability and we discuss the current exciting challenges of Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Programming.

Expanding Clinical Training Opportunities for Biomedical Scientists and Engineers

Faculty members from life science and engineering departments at universities interested in clinical training for predoctoral students are invited to attend a two-day workshop on July 11-12 at the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. The workshop will explore diverse clinical training models and strategies from the standpoints of trainees, instructors, and clinical mentors. Workshop participants will also help define useful instructional materials to be developed to enhance experiences and education of clinical trainees. Faculty members who currently participate in clinical training programs for predoctoral students and faculty members who aspire to develop similar programs are invited to participate. Accommodations in New York will be provided for workshop participants. There is no registration fee. This project is sponsored by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the Cornell Clinical and Translational Science Center. Interested faculty members at universities nationwide sh
