Combining path-breaking science and technical innovation, the Cornell College of Engineering is known for its collaborative, interdisciplinary culture; its vibrant graduate and professional programs; and its dedication to excellence in all aspects of its undergraduate program. As a professor in the college’s Department of Biomedical Engineering, as well as the university’s president, I appreciate how demanding it can be to provide rigorous educational experiences in a supportive learning environment that not only keeps pace with, but also leads scientific and technological progress. I commend the College of Engineering for its commitment to its students, and I thank the college’s alumni, parents, and friends for enabling the college to recognize distinguished teaching and mentoring with these annual awards.
