Cornell’s new X-ray beam facility for research, education, and training, called G-line, was formally opened during a ceremony June 15. Four years in the building, G-line is a division of the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS).

Built by Cornell, it houses equipment purchased through National Science Foundation (NSF) grants. Taking part in the ribbon-cutting, from left, are Joan Frye, from the NSF's chemistry division; Robert Richardson, Cornell vice provost for research and the F.R. Newman Professor of Physics; Héctor Abruña, the E.M. Chamot Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology; Donald H.
