Administration & Contact Information Cornell’s Department of Computer Science boasts a young, productive faculty, an abundance of outstanding students, and success in attracting sponsored research. We have complemented our strength in the essential core areas (artificial intelligence, programming languages, scientific computing, systems, and theory) with new commitments to databases, graphics, machine learning, and natural language processing. Cornell CS is widely known for its collegiality and its ability to move rapidly into new interdisciplinary fields such as information science and computational biology. The department’s challenge is to be simultaneously strong in the core areas of computer science while being a major force in emerging and interdisciplinary areas. While our undergraduate programs in the College of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences and our MEng and PhD programs continue to be successful, we are creating — as part of the broader focus of Computing and Information Science — new multidisciplinary degree programs in Information Science at both the undergraduate and graduate level. These programs will appeal to a new generation of students who have primary interests outside of CS but who need a strong foundation in the subject.
