Awards and Prizes

The Engineering Communications Program annually gives two awards for excellent work in Engineering Communications 350 and 335:

  • The Douglas Whitney ’61 Award for excellent writing is typically given to one or two students. The award carries a cash award of $1000 or $500, respectively.
  • The Roger K. Berman ’70 Memorial Prize for oral presentation is typically given to several students and carries a cash award of $150 each.

The prize in writing is sponsored by Cornell alumnus Douglas Whitney, who each year judges eight or nine final papers from the fall and spring semesters. Mrs. Alice Berman sponsors the award in oral presentation in memory of her late husband, Roger Berman, who was President of the Cornell Society of Engineers. Roger was an early and dedicated supporter of the Engineering Communications Program.
