Spring Course - "Essentials of Entrepreneurism" The spring course is an introduction to entrepreneurial “business wrapper” concepts. EOE is designed to broadly prepare Fellows for summer internships in a start-up/entrepreneurial environment and assist in fostering a like mindset. The course consists of lectures, guest speakers, individual and participatory activities, and Fellow team presentations. By the end of the course, Fellows will be able to discuss topics and issues surrounding beginning and leading start-up companies. Fellows will understand terminology and general categories of the entrepreneurial world including idea validation and market assessment, product and market strategy development, networking, team selection / culture and teambuilding, legalities, formation issues, contracts and agreements, partnerships, marketing, patents / trademarks / copyrights, venture financing, fundraising and cash management. In spring 2010, the course is currently scheduled to meet on Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Fellows are expected to attend and participate in all classes. Instructor and guest speakers: TBD Summer Internship Fellows will be assisted in securing a 10- to 12-week paid summer internship in small entrepreneurial or start-up companies or innovative units within larger companies. Fellows with innovative ideas that may be better accommodated by doing research with a Cornell faculty member may receive funding and space to work on their own project in Ithaca over the summer. Fall Symposium Series Open to the Cornell community! Fellows will prepare a presentation to share their summer experience. Anyone interested in the program or the companies in which Fellows completed their summer internship is encouraged to attend. The Fall 2009 series will be held on Wednesdays from 7 to 8 p.m. in Bard 140. For more information, contact Tracey Brant. |
