Students typically apply to affiliate with a major during the first semester of the sophomore year, although earlier affiliation may be granted.

Occasionally, a student falls just short of meeting the criteria to affiliate but demonstrates potential in that major. In such cases the student may be offered "conditional affiliation." Students must meet the requirements specified in the conditional affiliation agreement in order to continue in the major program. All students must be affiliated or conditionally affiliated with a major by the end of their fourth semester or they will be withdrawn from the college.

To apply for affiliation, students may obtain an application form from one of three places:

• Print it from this link
• The Undergraduate Major Consultant for the major with which they wish to affiliate
• The Engineering Advising Office, 167 Olin Hall

To affiliate with a major, students must:

• Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least >2.0
• Satisfy the major’s course and grade requirements
