FAQ

What will I get out of being a tutor?

Working with student clients benefits the tutors in that they receive a salary, deepen their understanding of the material by learning how to communicate it to others, and develop skills that are attractive to potential employers.

What is a Study Jam? Where can I find more information?

Held prior to each core preliminary exam, Study Jams are group tutoring sessions targeted to women and underrepresented minority students in undergraduate engineering. Here students can review fundamental concepts while gaining insight into more advanced topics in a less formal, more cooperative setting than in the course lecture.

How do I schedule a session with a tutor?

Complete the on-line Tutor Request Form or stop by the Engineering Learning Initiatives office in 167 Olin Hall and submit a paper copy. Once you have filled out a Tutor Request Form, ELI will provide you with the names and NetIds for the requested course. It is up to you to then contact the tutor(s) and make arrangements for your meeting. In the e-mail, be sure to indicate the course you are having difficulty with, as well as when you are available to meet. The tutor will respond to your request within 48 hours. On the rare occasion when you do not hear from a tutor within 48 hours please notify the ELI office.
