Through the Faculty Grants Program in the Engineering College, funds are available to support the participation of undergraduate students in faculty labs. The program aims to be mutually beneficial to student and faculty by:
-
Providing more opportunities for students to get involved in research and to benefit from the mentoring relationships that develop in that environment
-
Helping faculty members cover the costs of bringing new student researchers into their research programs.
Through this program, faculty can apply for a $3,000 grant to support one or more undergraduate researchers who are new to their labs. The grant money may be used anytime within one year of the award date.
Eligibility
-
Individual faculty may receive only one Faculty Grant for Undergraduate Research per year.
-
The student(s) benefiting from this grant must be new to the faculty applicant’s lab, and, preferably, new to undergraduate research in general.
-
Students must be currently enrolled as undergraduates in the College of Engineering.
-
CPRS students and students currently receiving Engineering Learning Initiatives Undergraduate Research Award funds, are not eligible to be supported through Faculty Grants for Undergraduate Research.
Application Process
Grant program announcements will be sent by e-mail to all engineering faculty in October. Applications are due November 10, 2008.
To apply, please prepare a Word document which includes:
-
Your contact info: name, department, campus address, e-mail, & phone.
-
Brief statement describing:

Notification and Award Funds
-
Applicants will be notified as to whether they have been selected to receive a Faculty Grant for Undergraduate Research by December 1, 2008.
-
Grant recipients may then select the student(s) to be supported by the grant.
-
The student(s) must register with Engineering Learning Initiatives by completing the online Faculty Grants Student Registration Form. Faculty recipients will receive the URL for the Student Registration Form in their award notification.
-
Once the student researcher has registered with Engineering Learning Initiatives by completing the online form, the award money will be transferred to the faculty member's research account.
The student researcher(s) may be selected, and award money transferred, anytime within one year from the award notification date.
