Please use the zoom link: https://cornell.zoom.us/j/94133933183?pwd=OWJpamlrMjNuRmlweTBDZnZhVlUvdz09 with password: cida Digital innovations have played roles in various aspects of the work in Rebecca Nelson's research group, as well as in the farmer research networks supported by the McKnight Foundation Collaborative Crop Research (CCRP) network for which Rebecca serves as scientific director. In the lab, we have asked if we can improve the quantification of a foliar maize disease, as well as plant health more generally, based on images captured from UAVs (drones). Farmer research networks funded through the CCRP have explored the use of digital technologies to share data from thousands of farmers doing simple experiments in remote locations. In this presentation, Rebecca will share the contexts, aims, experiences and lessons learned from these experiences. Rebecca Nelson is Professor in the School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University. She serves as Scientific Director for The McKnight Foundation’s Collaborative Crop Research Program. She co-chairs the Cornell Atkinson Center’s Food Security Working Group and the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems thematic group of the UN’s Sustainable Development Solutions Network. Her laboratory works on the genetics of quantitative disease resistance in maize and on mycotoxin management in Africa and India. She has worked at the International Potato Center in Lima, Peru and at the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines. The Cornell Institute for Digital Agriculture (CIDA), a faculty led initiative focused on creating a strong voice in the emerging area of Digital Agriculture (DA), invites Professor Nelson to present her research for CIDA’s monthly seminar series.
