Description

Flood risk is influenced by multiple deeply uncertain stressors and nonlinear dynamics across multiple scales, including the interactions between human, natural, and engineered systems. Risk management requires an integrated, multi-disciplinary approach to understanding system dynamics and responses to stressors. This approach uses decision analyses to link multiple disciplines and allows for the identification of key, decision-relevant uncertainties and interactions across disciplines and sectors. I will discuss how physical and socioeconomic uncertainties affect and influence decision-making for flood risk management at multiple levels and how neglecting key systems interactions can negatively influence outcomes.

Bio:
Vivek Srikrishnan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological & Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. His research focuses on climate risk management, and in particular on decision-making under joint climate- and human-system uncertainties.
