The ORIE Fall Kickoff Event is open to all. It features a moderated career perspectives panel with seven ORIE alumni representing a wide variety of fields. There are also breakout sessions focused on internships in different industries.

Jeffrey S Goldman ’97, M.S. ‘98

Organization: P&G

Position: Director of Enterprise Data Science

Jeffrey Goldman is Director of Enterprise Data Science, serving as analyst to the CEO and leading P&G’s Global Data Science Organization. In recognition of his sustained analytic contribution to P&G, he was inducted into P&G’s IT Distinguished Experts. Before his current role, Jeff led Business Analytics for Global Markets and the Western European Analytics Organization and founded the Business Analytics group for China and Product Supply Analytics for Asia.

Jeff holds a B.A. in economics and a Master's in operations research from Cornell University. He lives in Cincinnati with his wife Tanja and sons Jonathan and Nathan.

Jamie Hintlian ’82, M.Eng. ’85, M.B.A. ‘86

Organization: EY Life Sciences Supply Chain

Position: Partner/ Principal Advisory Services

Jamie Hintlian is a Principal at Ernst & Young (EY) and leads the Life Sciences Supply Chain practice.

He works with clients to improve their supply chain performance, including manufacturing strategy, plant operations, and supply chain planning. He has been a pioneer in leading industry initiatives concerning safe and secure supply chains and regulatory compliance. Prior to EY Jamie worked over 20 years at Accenture, where he also led the Global Health and Life Sciences Supply Chain. Additionally, Jamie built and led the Pharmaceutical Business Unit of Aspen Technology.

Jamie has helped lead a supply chain and manufacturing strategy class at Cornell’s Johnson School as an assistant instructor, and often presents as a guest speaker. At Cornell Jamie earned a B.S. and M.Eng. in operations research from Cornell University, and M.B.A. from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell.

Robert Kaplan, Ph.D. '68

Organization: Harvard Business School (retired)

Position: Senior Fellow and Professor, Emeritus

Bob Kaplan is Senior Fellow and Professor, Emeritus at the Harvard Business School where he has taught for 30 years. He was also on the faculty of the business school at Carnegie-Mellon University, and served as Dean for six years. Kaplan received a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from M.I.T., a Ph.D. in Operations Research from Cornell University, and several honorary degrees. His research has focused on linking cost and performance management systems to strategy implementation. He co-developed both activity-based costing and the Balanced Scorecard, and authored or co-authored 14 books and more than 150 papers, 25 in Harvard Business Review.

Radhika Kulkarni, M.S. ’80, Ph.D. ‘81

Position: Vice President of Advanced Analytics R&D at SAS Institute Inc. (retired)                                                                                

Dr. Radhika Kulkarni is an Advanced Analytics professional, active in the area of Operations Research, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. She recently retired after 35 years of leading various areas of analytics R&D at SAS Institute, Inc. For the last 10 years of her career, Kulkarni was the Vice President of Advanced Analytics R&D, overseeing software development in many analytical areas including Statistics, Operations Research, Econometrics, Forecasting and Data Mining. Kulkarni is an active member in the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) and serves on the Advisory Council of the School of ORIE at Cornell University, the Advisory Board of the Institute for Advanced Analytics at North Carolina State University and the Master of Science in Analytics Advisory Board at Georgia Tech. Dr. Kulkarni is a recipient of the Women in Operations Research and the Management Sciences (WORMS) Award and was recognized as an INFORMS Fellow in 2014.

Since her retirement, Kulkarni has been spending more time with universities and professional organizations increasing Data Science literacy and expertise (based on the student’s skills and interests) across a broad population of students. The primary goal is to motivate students to pursue more advanced degrees that will equip them to both work in industry as well as pursue innovative research in these fields. Kulkarni is active in the role of ambassador, evangelist and mentor in several universities. She also seeks to have a large impact across many different departments, schools, colleges and to inspire interdisciplinary collaboration. Such collaboration is a key requirement for success in finding the right solution for critical business problems.

Radhika Kulkarni has a Master’s in Mathematics from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi and a Master’s (1979) and Ph.D. (1981) in Operations Research from Cornell University.

Jeffrey Libshutz, ‘95

Organization: ArmaVir Partners LLC

Position: Managing Partner

Jeffrey Libshutz is currently a Managing Partner of ArmaVir Partners LLC, a private equity firm which makes direct equity investments in small-to-mid-sized operating companies.  Prior to ArmaVir, Jeffrey was a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager      of the Private Investments Group at Ramius, the global alternative investment management business of Cowen Group, Inc., which he joined in 2005.  Prior to joining Ramius, Mr. Libshutz was a Managing Director and co-Founder of LLJ Capital, a specialty finance firm focused on providing capital solutions to media and communications companies, and a co-Founder of Saturn Venture Partners, a venture capital fund formed in partnership with Telecom Italia and Ramius.  Prior to Saturn Venture Partners, he was a Vice President at Sandler Capital Management and an investment banker with Lazard Frères and Salomon Brothers.  Throughout his career he has served on a number of corporate and non-profit boards of directors. 

Jeffrey has a BS in Engineering from Cornell and an MBA from Wharton.  Mr. Libshutz is currently a member of the advisory council for the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell.

Daniel Southern '11, M.Eng. '13

Organization: Oracle, Inc.

Position: Senior Director, Corporate Strategic Intelligence

Daniel Southern leads Oracle’s Strategic Intelligence program with a focus on:

• Data Governance: Managing access and handling of highly restricted and regulated multinational data from global security and business sources.
• Data-Driven Decisions: Empowering executive-level decision making for risk and emerging business opportunity.
• Automation: Spearheading machine learning and robot process automation integration across Oracle’s global security programs.

Currently, Daniel serves as the division lead for his team of over 200 volunteers in coordination with the National Incident Management System and a founding chair of the FBI’s Blockchain Cross Sector Council. His previous experience includes serving as vice chair of the Silicon Valley Machine Learning Education Board and a member of the U.S. National Disaster Resiliency Council.

Renu Thomas ’90, M.Eng. ‘91

Organization: Ruby SlippersTM

Position: CEO and Co-Founder

Renu Thomas is CEO and Co-Founder of Ruby SlippersTM. Renu founded Ruby SlippersTM with her husband John Roth to redefine the quality of aging by helping solve the problem of organizing, overseeing, and providing care to seniors living independently in the community.

Renu Thomas is a 2019 Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative Fellow. ALI is an interfaculty fellowship dedicated to preparing experienced leaders to transition from successful careers to their next phase of community and public service. Renu’s focus during the ALI fellowship was Public Health & Entrepreneurship.

Prior to ALI, Renu Thomas was Executive Vice President, Media Operations, Engineering and IT for Disney ABC Television Group (DATG). In this role, Ms. Thomas worked closely with members of DATG’s senior leadership team to ensure strategic alignment of the Group’s investments, initiatives, and business growth objectives, including global expansion, organic growth into new markets and new product/service development/deployment. Thomas was formerly Senior Vice President, Technology and Operations, Disney ABC Networks Group where she was responsible for the technical and operational strategic direction and ongoing management of all television functions across US Domestic Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior, ABC Family, Disney ABC Domestic Television (Syndication) and Radio Disney. Thomas joined The Walt Disney Company in 2007 as Vice President of Operations for ABC News where she was responsible for setting the overall strategy and leading the operations for studios, control rooms, editing and graphics for all ABC News programs, including “Good Morning America,” “World News,” “Nightline,” “20/20,” “This Week,” as well as special events. She was involved in a variety of projects to help prepare ABC News for the future, including deploying new technology and improving production and business processes.

Thomas graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering in Operations Research & Industrial Engineering. She resides in Sherman Oaks, Calif. with her husband John Roth.
