Lawrence Bonassar

Bonassar, the Daljit S. and Elaine Sarkaria Professor in Biomedical Engineering, was awarded the Marshall R. Urist MD Award by the Orthopedic Research Society.

Mark Campbell

Campbell, the John A. Mellowes ’60 Professor, was named a Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow by Cornell University. This is Cornell’s highest teaching honor.

Olivier Desjardins

Desjardins, professor in the Sibley School, won a 2024 Teaching Award from Cornell Engineering.

Gregory Falco

Falco won the North American Actuarial Journal Best Paper Award for 2023. Falco, who is an assistant professor, and his co-authors won for their paper titled “The Economic Impact of Extreme Cyber Risk Scenarios.” Also, a podcast submitted by Falco won the Defense Media Award for Best Cyber Security Submission of the Year. The “Threat Landscape, A Cyber Vulnerability, And Ransoming a Satellite” episode aired Feb. 10 on The Downlink Space Tech podcast.

Elizabeth Fisher

Fisher, associate professor, won a 2024 Teaching Award from Cornell Engineering.

Maha Haji

Haji, assistant professor, will use a new $2.6 million grant from NOAA Sea Grant to continue work on a microplastic collecting robot called MOLLUSCA.

Rose Howard

Howard, assistant to the director for the Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, won an EPICC Award from Cornell Engineering for applying new and more efficient systems to the school and for her innovative contributions to college-wide initiatives.

Brian Kirby

Kirby, who is the Meinig Family Professor of Engineering, won a 2024 Teaching Award from Cornell Engineering.

Atieh Moridi

Moridi has been awarded the 2025 Young Innovator in the Materials Science of Additive Manufacturing Award from the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society. Moridi, who is an assistant professor in the Sibley School, also won a Research Excellence Award from Cornell Engineering.

Mason Peck

Peck, the Stephen J. Fujikawa ‘77 Professor of Astronautical Engineering, was named a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. He was honored for his innumerable contributions to the field but in particular his exceptional contributions to space systems engineering and leadership in advancing spacecraft technology and innovation.

Hadas Ritz

Ritz, senior lecturer in the Sibley School, won an EPICC Award from Cornell Engineering for her bold and innovative transformation of the engineering math sequence. Ritz also won the 2024 Albert R. George Endowed Faculty Award for Student Project Teams Mentorship.

Rob Shepherd

Shepherd, associate professor, won a U.S. Department of Energy Grid Overhaul with Proactive, High-Speed Undergrounding for Reliability, Resilience, and Security Grant.

Hannah Sherman ’26

Sherman won a Brooke Owens Fellowship, awarded to students who “aspire to explore our sky and stars, advance the aerospace industry, and help their fellow people here on planet Earth.”

Zhiting Tian

Tian, associate professor, has been awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientist and Engineers, which is the highest U.S. government honor for early-career scientists and engineers. Tian also won a 2024 Research Excellence Award from Cornell Engineering.

Zach Ulibarri

Ulibarri, who is a postdoc working with Sibley School professor Elaine Petro, was awarded a Heising-Simons Foundation 51 Pegasi b Fellowship, which provides scientists with the opportunity to conduct theoretical, observational, and experimental research in planetary astronomy.

Marjolein van der Meulen

Van der Meulen, the Swanson Professor of Biomedical Engineering, has been named associate vice provost in the Office of the Vice President for Research & Innovation. Van der Meulen also received the Lissner Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Jingjie Yeo

Yeo, assistant professor in the Sibley School, has been awarded a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) award to study the molecular structures of intestinal mucus.
