Awards and Recognition

Two Cornell Engineering doctoral student were awarded fellowships by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Pascal Caraccioli Salinas, a doctoral student in geological sciences, received the DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowship, and Joshua Luoma, a doctoral candidate in applied physics, received the DOE National Nuclear Security Administration Laboratory Residency Graduate Fellowship.

Zhiting Tian, professor, has received the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Director’s Fellowship, an extremely selective award given to top performers in the DARPA Young Faculty Award pool.

Atieh Moridi, assistant professor, has been selected to participate in the Grainger Foundation Frontiers of Engineering 2025 Symposium of the National Academy of Engineering. The symposium will be held September 14-17 at the University of Pennsylvania.

Sixteen Cornell Engineering faculty members recently completed the Cornell Engineering’s first immersive Faculty Leadership Academy, a professional development pilot program designed to cultivate leadership skills among faculty members. Read more >>

Chloé Arson, professor, has been elected a member of the Board of Directors of the American Rock Mechanics Association.

Fengqi You, Roxanne E. and Michael J. Zak Professor, had his research featured on the cover of the journal Nature Computational Science.

Eilyan Bitar, associate professor, has been awarded a grant from the Bezos Earth Fund’s inaugural AI Grand Challenge for Climate and Nature to investigate how electric vehicles can be transformed into a vast, dispatchable network of mobile energy storage resources.

Fengqi You, Roxanne E. and Michael J. Zak Professor, had his study “Transitioning Photovoltaics to All-Perovskite Tandems Reduces 2050 Climate Change Impacts of PV Sector by 16%” featured on the cover of the May 20 issue of Environmental Science & Technology.

Carolina Muñoz-Saez, assistant professor, received the Faculty Champion Award for Early Career Faculty from the Graduate School Office of Inclusion and Student Engagement.

Atieh Moridi, assistant professor, received the Young Innovator in the Materials Science of Additive Manufacturing Award at The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society annual meeting held in March in Las Vegas. This award seeks to recognize an outstanding, early career individual who is performing innovative research in the area of the materials science of additive manufacturing.
