Biography
Margaret Milman-Barris, PG, is a project manager and senior geologist for environmental remediation projects across the country, specializing in sites with groundwater contamination. Prior to joining FPM Remediations in 2013, she was a geologist with CH2M Hill and MWH Americas. She leads projects at every stage from investigation to regulatory closeout, including high-resolution site characterization, effectiveness evaluation of previous corrective actions using available historical data, design and implementation of site remedies for contaminant reduction, post-remedy groundwater monitoring, and remedy optimization. In addition to the science and engineering aspects, a key component to this work is understanding each site’s unique requirements under environmental regulations and permits, in order to support clients’ compliance efforts.
Margaret is a 1998 Cornell geology graduate from the College of Engineering. Highlights of her undergraduate years were participating in the inaugural Cornell/University of Buenos Aires joint summer field camp in the Central Andes, working with Dr. Suzanne Mahlburg-Kay on neodymium isotope analysis and tectonics, and a summer internship at the U.S. Geological Survey in Flagstaff, AZ. Margaret then earned a master’s degree from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, and, in an interlude between environmental consulting positions, she spent three years in a PhD program at the California Institute of Technology. Margaret holds Professional Geologist licenses in multiple states.
Through service on the Advisory Council, my goal is to advise and assist Cornell EAS to perpetuate the field of geology through faculty research and by educating the next generation of geology practitioners.
