Jordan Dick, BS 2012 in Civil Engineering
Work Title: Consulting Engineer at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) in Boston, MA

Jordan DickJordan is part of SGH’s Building Technology team and specializes in the design and investigation of repairs for historic structures. Her work is a combination of field work and office work. On any typical day, Jordan might be on site with a contractor identifying a building’s issues/ documenting existing conditions, working on a drawing set, writing a report or field report, or visiting an active construction site to ensure that the design details are being implemented properly.

Some of her project highlights include working on a custom curtain-wall replacement project at the Kresge Auditorium at MIT, conducting pull tests on opaque glass panels (pictured), and rehabilitating the below-grade plaza waterproofing at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale, which houses countless of priceless artifacts underground. She is also thrilled that her project team is going to be consulting to the Architect in the rehabilitation of Balch Hall (her freshman year dorm) at Cornell!

Jordan’s passion for historic buildings led her to choose the field of Civil Engineering. Her advice to current students is to follow their passions and find a course of study that is suited to help them explore those passions.  Although her work diverges slightly from traditional Civil Engineering, upon graduation, she felt well-positioned for success in her career, because of her education at Cornell.
