More Ways To Develop Networks

Your networking strategy, should be like your job search strategy, diverse. Leverage the relationships and connections your already have to help you grow your professional network. You never know who might be able to provide career advice, or referrals to other professionals, so don't be shy about sharing interests and goals with others.

  • Participate in the Alumni Connections Program to conduct informational interviews with, and job shadow, Cornell alumni.
  • Use a summer job, internship, or research experience as an opportunity to develop relationships with your supervisor, and other colleagues at the organization.
  • Join professional associations (e.g. ASME, NSBE, SHPE, SWE, etc.) for career and industry-related information and to build connections in your field.
  • Connect with Cornell Engineering Alumni.  Search for alumni on LinkedIn. Meet alumni through on- and off-campus career events and social activities. Identify Cornellians in news articles and request informational interviews. Join your local Cornell Club after graduation.
  • Attend Career Conversations with Cornell Alumni sessions to learn about potential career fields of interest and hear first-hand how our alumni are using their degrees (these sessions are hosted periodically throughout the semester; view event details and register in Handshake)
