Cornell University has been ranked best on-campus Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) program in Data Science for AI or Machine Learning by the Artificial Intelligence Education Guide, an online resource for comparing graduate programs in artificial intelligence and related fields.

The honor recognizes the R.F. Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering’s innovative M.Eng. degree in chemical engineering with a focus in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI)—a one-year, full-time program at the intersection of computer science, data science and process engineering.

Designed for professionals working in smart manufacturing, the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud-based product development, the M.Eng. with a DSAI focus features advanced coursework in computational optimization, industrial big data analytics and machine learning. Students also explore topics such as financial data, lean engineering and product design, culminating in a hands-on, company-sponsored studio design project.

The ranking also highlights Cornell’s growing leadership in AI research. In 2023, the university launched the Scientific Artificial Intelligence Center, a multidisciplinary initiative funded by the Office of Naval Research to advance AI in materials science, turbulence and autonomy.

Cornell’s combination of academic rigor, real-world applications and cutting-edge research makes this M.Eng. program a national leader in graduate education for data science and artificial intelligence.
