Information for Postponed Applicants
We realize that you were hoping for a final decision at this time, however; after careful deliberation, we have decided to postpone a final decision on your application until the regular review process in the spring. Please read below for more information and what, if anything, you need to do in regards to your application.
What does this mean?
The early decision applicant pool was record-breaking this year, both in terms of the number of applications as well as the quality of the applications. The fact that your application was postponed to regular decision means that we feel you remain a viable applicant to the College of Engineering but for one reason or another we felt that we should review your application in the context for regular decision. This could mean that we want to see how you are performing in your senior year—so we want to see your midterm grades. Or, it could be as simple we would like to review you application within the context of the regular decision applicant pool.
Applicants who are moved into the regular decision pool are thoroughly reviewed again in January and February. It is also important to note that you are no longer bound by the early decision obligation to attend Cornell. If you are admitted in regular decision, you will be able to choose whether or not you wish to attend Cornell.
What should I do?
First and foremost, please remember to submit applications to other colleges and universities since you will not know the final outcome of your application for admission to Cornell until late March.
Keep up your grades! We often make the decision to postpone an application because we would like to see how you are faring in your senior year. Please ask your guidance counselor to submit your mid-term grades.
Beyond that, there is not much you need to do. We realize that is probably counter-intuitive but if we need additional information from you, we will contact you or your guidance counselor. There is no need to submit additional letters of recommendation or letters of interest. If you have a significant recent accomplishment or another item that you wholeheartedly feel we should be aware of, please use your applicant status page to submit supplemental information. This system is set up so that anything you submit goes directly into your application file.
