Services

• Focus on first- and second-year unaffiliated students, with continued access for upper-class students.
• Focus primarily on issues related to the Engineering Common Curriculum and successfully affiliating with a major.
• Providing specialty advising for:
  • Course Enrollment Challenges.
  • Liberal Studies.
  • Study Abroad/international experiences.
  • Pre-health careers and how to integrate requirements into the curriculum.
  • Transferring internally (between colleges) within Cornell.
  • Health and well-being appointments: if you need immediate guidance or advice about a physical or mental health concern, you can contact Cornell Health 24/7.
  • Cornell University student disability services.
  • Major exploration including the Independent Major and the affiliation process.
  • Minors and double majors.
  • Transfer credit, petitions, and curricular substitutions
  • Criteria for good academic standing.
  • Voluntary, required, and health leaves of absence and withdrawals.
• Coordinate the Academic Concern Program; supporting students having academic or personal difficulties and referring students to appropriate Campus Resources.
• Supporting students having academic or personal difficulties and referring students to appropriate campus resources.
• Providing case management for students who are in need of academic consideration and/or in distress.
• Partner with faculty advisors and major departments to best support students.
• Protect the privacy of student education records as per FERPA.

Hours of Operation

Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET

Please Note: The Engineering Advising Team works remotely on Mondays and therefore the physical office suite is closed that day. Advising appointments made for Mondays will be virtual.

Virtual Advising Drop-In Hours – Fall 2025

• Tuesdays – 2:30 p.m.-4 p.m. (ET) – starting September 2 and ending December 16
• Wednesdays – 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. (ET) – starting August 27 and ending December 17

There will be extra drop-in hours for the final course drop deadline (with a ‘W’ grade), which is Monday, December 8, the last day of classes:

• Friday, December 5
  • 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
• Monday, December 8
  • 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
  • 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Drop-In hours are first-come, first-served. You will enter the Waiting Room initially and an advisor will invite you in when it is your turn. Please join virtual advising drop-in hours from a stationary location with a stable Wi-Fi connection so you and your advisor can have a productive conversation.

Please Note: Cornell Zoom requires authentication. Log in to Cornell’s Zoom using your NetID and password to activate your account. Choose the Single Sign On (SSO) option to log into Zoom from the app on your computer or phone.

Advising Appointments – Fall 2025

Make a 30-minute (in-person or virtual) appointment with your Engineering Advising professional staff academic advisor online through Chatter.  We do not make same-day appointments. 

Calendars tend to fill up quickly so plan in advance and come prepared with questions to your appointment.

If your appointment is virtual, please join from a stationary location with a stable Wi-Fi connection so you and your advisor can have a productive conversation.

Three-week availability range: The calendars will only show availability for the next three weeks. If you don’t see availability, please check back the next week. If your matter is urgent, please email adv_engineering@cornell.edu or call us at 607-255-7414.
