Lara A. Estroff, chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Cornell and the Herbert Fisk Johnson Professor of Industrial Chemistry, has been named a 2026 Materials Research Society (MRS) Fellow, one of the most selective honors awarded by the society.

Estroff is recognized for her influential contributions to bio-inspired materials synthesis, including advancing the understanding of biomineralization and crystal growth mechanisms, as well as for her impactful academic leadership within the materials community.

The MRS Fellows program honors members whose distinguished research accomplishments and exceptional service have significantly advanced materials research worldwide. Each year, the number of new fellows is limited to just 0.2% of the Society’s regular membership, underscoring the exceptional selectivity of the award.

“I am honored to receive this recognition from MRS and to be included among such a distinguished group of colleagues who share my commitment to advancing the frontiers of materials research,” said Estroff.

The 2026 class of fellows will be formally honored at the 2026 MRS Spring Meeting, scheduled for April 26 through May 1, 2026, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.
