Materials Science and Engineering undergraduate students who are involved in senior thesis research are eligible to apply for an accelerated version of our two year M.S. program, allowing them to complete their degree in one academic year.
Important Next Steps
-
Speak With Your Senior Thesis Advisor
Discuss your goals and plans with your advisor to make sure that you are in agreement that, given one more year, your senior thesis can turn into a publication-quality M.S. thesis. Your senior thesis advisor must also agree to continue as the chair of your M.S. committee and supervise your M.S. thesis work.
-
Gather Your Application Materials
As a Cornell student, you need two letters to apply:
- A letter from your senior thesis advisor agreeing to supervise your M.S. degree.
- A letter from a future committee member.
Our undergraduates are not required to take the GRE to apply.
-
Submit Your Application
The application for the accelerated M.S. program is the same as the two year M.S. program. You should notify the Materials Science and Engineering department at mse-gfa@cornell.edu of your intention to apply as an accelerated student.
