Cornell ECE Ph.D. student Yunye Gong has been awarded a Google Ph.D. Fellowship in Machine Learning.

Cornell ECE Ph.D. student Yunye Gong has been awarded a Google Ph.D. Fellowship in Machine Learning.  Gong is a fourth year Ph.D. candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell. She works with Professor Peter Doerschuk to understand the heterogeneity of biological nanoparticles like viruses by learning a generative mathematical mechanical model. They work in collaboration with Professor John E. Johnson from The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, CA whose career has been focused on understanding the lifecycle of viruses, especially maturation and infection, with obviously important implications for human health.

Gong joined Cornell ECE in Fall 2013 after receiving her bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Visit the Doerschuk group website to learn more.

The Google Ph.D. Fellowship Program recognizes outstanding graduate students doing exceptional work in computer science or related disciplines. Google runs Ph.D. Fellowship programs in several regions throughout the world.  The 2017 Class of Google Ph.D. Fellows consists of 33 recipients from North America, Europe and the Middle East who work in nine disciplines related to computer science.  Students receive both financial support for their Ph.D. studies and are paired with a Google Research Mentor.  Find out more about the program here: https://research.google.com/research-outreach.html#/research-outreach/graduate-fellowships
