Congratulations to Raina Kikani (BME '23), who earned 2nd place in the 2021 American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) St. Lawrence Sectional Conference poster competition! Her research in the Cosgrove Laboratory is funded by an Engineering Learning Initiatives grant and involves designing novel coculture models for muscle stem cell therapies.
Raina and her mentor Emily Laurilliard, a Ph.D. student in the Cosgrove Lab, hope to use these systems to study the stem cell niche and possibly help patients with Duchenne's Muscular Dystrophy and sarcopenia. This summer Raina is working at the National Institutes of Health doing machine learning image analysis for stem cell therapies for genetic eye diseases.
