Distributed Energy Storage: An Industry Perspective

Distribution-level battery energy storage is an emerging market in New York State’s electrical landscape. This technology is uniquely situated to address critical challenges facing today’s grid: intermittency, congestion, and electrification. This presentation will dive into the development and operation of distributed energy storage through the lens of Orenda, a company at the forefront of the renewables transition in New York City.

Bio: Andrew Dircks ’22 is the vice president of asset technology at Orenda, an energy storage developer and operator based in New York City. Andrew’s team is responsible for the software and hardware platform used to successfully operate fleets of distributed energy storage assets. Andrew graduated from Cornell in 2022 with a dual major in computer science and environmental engineering.
