Mei-Wei '72, P'22 and Amy Cheng P'22

Mei-Wei Cheng '72, P'22 retired in summer 2014 as President and CEO of Siemens Ltd., China. He currently serves as the Non Executive Chairman of HCP Packaging, Non Executive Chairman of Interplex, member of the Board of Directors of Lear Corporation and Niu Technologies, Senior Venture Partner at Fontinalis Partners, LLC, and Senior Advisor to the Board of Iconiq Motors. Previously he served on the Board of Diebold and Seagate Technology, and as Non Executive Chairman of Pactera.

Prior to joining Siemens, Mr. Cheng spent his career working for major international corporations, mainly based in China. Mr. Cheng was Group Vice President for Ford Motor Company and Executive Chairman for Ford Motor China.  Prior to joining Ford, Mr. Cheng held several Senior Executive positions within General Electric Corporation including: Vice President, Regional Executive and President of GE Appliance, Asia in Hong Kong, and Chairman and CEO of GE China. Mr. Cheng started his career in 1972 as a plant engineer with New Jersey Bell, and in 1993 became President of AT&T China. Under his leadership, AT&T established a major presence in China. Previously in his career, Mr. Cheng also served as Vice Chairman of Jiangling Motor Company, and Vice Chairman of Chang'an Ford Automobile Corporation Ltd.

In addition to earning a B.S. in Operations Research and Information Engineering at Cornell University, Mr. Cheng holds an MBA from Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey, is a graduate of Dartmouth's Amos Tuck Executive Program in Hanover, New Hampshire, as well as MIT's Program for Senior Executives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Mr. Cheng is a generous philanthropist at Cornell University and an engaged volunteer serving on the boards of the Cornell University China Advisory Board and Engineering Advisory Council. Mr. Cheng also served on the Cornell University Council for six years.

Mr. Cheng is an active community member as well as an industry leader.  He has been a member of the Committee of 100, an organization of Chinese American leaders devoted to encouraging better U.S.-China relations and to promoting the full participation of Chinese Americans in all aspects of American life.  He has been elected to the Board of Governors of American Chambers of Commerce in China several times, and served as vice chairman in 1996.  Mr. Cheng has a long history of board service at numerous other companies. 

Amy Cheng P'22 had a prominent career in the television industry. Mr. and Mrs. Cheng have two children. Henry is a student in the College of Engineering at Cornell University and George is a graduate of Dartmouth College and is currently working with a private equity firm.
